Activity Description
This continuing education activity features two case-based presentations from emergency medicine and clinical toxicology pharmacists. Dr. Aubrey Murphy presents “When the Gray Area Becomes Black — Deviations from Guideline-Directed Care,” examining treatment approaches drawn from popular online forums against guideline-directed standards, including high-dose rocuronium for rapid sequence intubation and adequate sedation/analgesia during paralysis. Dr. Frank Paloucek presents “ToxHacks / Unusual Drug Levels After Ingestion,” a case-based review of extended-release lithium toxicokinetics and the interpretation of serum drug levels in acute versus chronic ingestions. Each case emphasizes critical appraisal of the evidence behind popular practice trends and practical clinical pearls to support optimal patient care in high-acuity emergency medicine and toxicology settings.
