SEMP Privacy Policy
Last modified: March 29, 2025
Our Commitment to Privacy
Your privacy is important to the Society of Emergency Medicine Pharmacists (SEMP). To better protect your privacy, we provide this notice explaining our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used. To make this notice easy to find, we make it available via a link on our website footer.
Information We Collect and How We Use It
When you sign up for an account on empharmacists.org (or related SEMP sites), register for events like the EmpowerRx Conference, subscribe to publications like the Journal of Acute Care Pharmacotherapy (JACP), or utilize other services, we may ask you for personal information (such as your name, credentials, institution, email address, and an account password). For certain services requiring payment (e.g., membership dues, conference registration), we may also request credit card or other payment account information, which is processed securely by our payment partners and handled according to industry standards.
We use the information you provide about yourself primarily to fulfill your requests, process transactions, provide member services, and communicate with you about SEMP activities and offerings. We do not share your personal payment information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to complete that transaction.
From time to time, SEMP may use your contact information (excluding email addresses unless you opt-in) to provide you with information regarding offerings from SEMP or carefully selected partners (such as sponsors or collaborating organizations) that offer products or services relevant to emergency medicine pharmacy practice. You will have the option to manage your communication preferences. Email addresses are not shared with outside parties for marketing purposes.
Cookies
When you visit SEMP websites, we may send one or more cookies – small files containing a string of characters – to your computer that uniquely identify your browser. We use cookies to improve the quality of our service by storing user preferences, tracking user trends (e.g., page visits), and facilitating login sessions. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies, but you can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some SEMP website features and services may not function properly if your cookies are disabled.
Log Information
When you access SEMP websites, our servers automatically record information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website. These server logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request, and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser. This information is used for site administration, security, and analyzing trends.
User Communications
When you send email or other communications to SEMP, we may retain those communications to process your inquiries, respond to your requests, and improve our services and communications.
Information Sharing
SEMP does not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share aggregated, non-personal information with third parties, such as the number of visitors to certain areas of our website or demographic summaries of our membership. Such information does not identify you individually. We may share personal information with trusted third-party service providers who perform functions on our behalf (e.g., website hosting, payment processing, email distribution) only to the extent necessary for them to perform those services, and under strict confidentiality agreements.
Information Security
We take appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or unauthorized alteration, disclosure, or destruction of data. These include internal reviews of our data collection, storage, and processing practices and security measures, as well as physical security measures where applicable. We restrict access to personal information to SEMP employees, contractors, board members, and agents who need to know that information to operate, develop, or improve our services. These individuals are bound by confidentiality obligations.
Accessing and Updating Personal Information
We strive to provide you with access to your personal information. Members and registered users may typically view and update their profile information via a "My Account" or "Member Profile" section on our website. Please keep your contact information accurate and up-to-date.
Choices for Personal Information
SEMP members may have options to control the visibility of certain contact information in member directories or manage preferences for receiving communications from SEMP or its partners. Please visit your account settings or communication preferences page (when available) for details.
Changes to This Policy
Please note that this Privacy Policy may change from time to time. We will post any Policy changes on this page and indicate the date of the latest revision. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.
