SEMP Annual Awards

Honoring the individuals and teams who define excellence in Emergency Medicine Pharmacy. These annual awards celebrate sustained impact, visionary leadership, groundbreaking research, and the next generation of EM pharmacy leaders.

About the Annual Awards

SEMP Annual Awards recognize the highest level of achievement in emergency medicine pharmacy. Unlike our monthly highlights, these awards honor sustained excellence and career-defining contributions over the past year.

  • Nominees must be SEMP members — membership is required for all annual award categories
  • Nominations are peer-reviewed and scored by the SEMP Awards & Recognition Committee
  • Winners are recognized at the annual EmpowerRx Conference
  • Self-nominations and peer nominations are both welcomed

Nomination Requirements

Each nomination package must include:

  • Nominee's CV or resume (required)
  • Nomination letter — 750-word maximum outlining the nominee's qualifications and contributions
  • 1–2 letters of support from individuals familiar with the nominee's work (do not need to be SEMP members)
  • Description of achievements with specific examples and impact
  • Any additional supporting documents (publications, protocols, photos) are optional but encouraged

Pharmacy Team Award
Exemplary EM project or response to clinical or community event

Recognizes a pharmacy team that executed an outstanding emergency medicine project or delivered an exemplary response to a clinical or community event. This award celebrates the power of collaboration—teams that came together under pressure, innovated in real-time, or developed initiatives that made a measurable impact on patient care or community health.

Team-Based Clinical Response Community Impact

Who Can Be Nominated
Any EM pharmacy team (2+ members) who are SEMP members. This can be a clinical initiative, operational project, exemplary response to a mass casualty/disaster, or community event.
What to Include: Nominee CV, nomination letter (750 words max), 1–2 letters of support, description of the project or event, team composition, and outcomes achieved.

Lifetime EM Award
EM/Tox RPh of 5+ years with outstanding practice contributions

Honors an emergency medicine or toxicology pharmacist with five or more years of dedicated practice who has made outstanding, sustained contributions to the profession. This award recognizes the mentors, builders, and trailblazers whose cumulative body of work has shaped EM pharmacy as we know it.

Who Can Be Nominated
SEMP member with sustained contributions to emergency medicine and/or toxicology over multiple years. The committee intentionally keeps this category flexible to recognize diverse career paths.

Emergency Medicine Pharmacist of the Year
The highest individual honor in EM pharmacy

The premier individual award recognizing an EM pharmacist who has demonstrated exceptional clinical excellence, leadership, innovation, and service over the past year. This pharmacist embodies the very best of what it means to practice at the forefront of emergency medicine pharmacy.

SEMP member who has made exceptional contributions to the practice of emergency medicine pharmacy. Evaluated on clinical impact, professional contributions, leadership, and service.

Shaping the next generation of EM pharmacists

Celebrates a preceptor or mentor who goes above and beyond in training and developing the next generation of EM pharmacists. This individual creates meaningful learning experiences, fosters professional growth, and inspires students and residents to pursue excellence in emergency medicine pharmacy.

SEMP member who demonstrates exemplary dedication to mentoring and educating future emergency medicine pharmacists. Nominations from mentees are especially encouraged.

Non-resident New Practitioner — within 5 years of practice

Recognizes a new practitioner (non-resident) within their first five years of practice who is already making waves in EM pharmacy. This individual demonstrates early-career leadership, initiative, and a trajectory that signals they will be a driving force in the field for years to come.

SEMP member who is a non-resident new practitioner within 5 years of completing training, actively practicing in or contributing to emergency medicine pharmacy.

Advancing EM pharmacy through scholarly work

Honors an individual whose research has meaningfully advanced the knowledge base of emergency medicine pharmacy. Whether through original investigations, systematic reviews, quality improvement studies, or translational research, this award recognizes scholarship that moves the profession forward.

Who Can Be Nominated
SEMP member whose research has advanced the knowledge and practice of emergency medicine pharmacy. Work should be published, presented, or in advanced stages of completion.

EM Rising Star Award
Student or Resident with outstanding EM contribution

Celebrates a pharmacy student or resident who has made an outstanding contribution to emergency medicine pharmacy. Whether through exceptional clinical performance, impactful research, innovative projects, or dedicated service, this trainee has already demonstrated the qualities of a future EM pharmacy leader.

Student Resident Trainee Excellence
Eligibility & Criteria
Who Can Be Nominated
SEMP member who is a current pharmacy student or resident (PGY-1 or PGY-2) with outstanding contributions to emergency medicine pharmacy. Nominations from preceptors, faculty, and peers are encouraged.
What to Include: Nominee CV, nomination letter (750 words max), 1–2 letters of support, description of EM contributions, and clinical or research achievements.
