Present Your Case: SEMP's "Out of Pocket Cases" Series!

The Society of Emergency Medicine Pharmacists (SEMP) is excited to invite you to contribute to our engaging and practical monthly virtual series: "Out of Pocket Cases." This initiative is designed for Emergency Medicine (EM) pharmacists to share and learn from real-world clinical scenarios that challenge our thinking and refine our practice.

Each month, we aim to feature insightful presentations that delve into the complexities of emergency medicine pharmacotherapy. This is your platform to showcase those memorable "out of pocket" experiences, discuss critical decision-making processes, and share valuable clinical pearls with your peers across the nation.

What We're Looking For in Your Case Submission:

We encourage submissions that focus on the formal therapeutic considerations and deep dive into the decisions faced by EM clinicians. Your case should ideally:

  • Highlight a significant "clinical pearl" that offers practical, take-home value for EM pharmacists.
  • Represent a unique or particularly challenging patient presentation or illness script encountered in the emergency department.
  • Explore complex diagnostic dilemmas or therapeutic management strategies.
  • Provide an opportunity to discuss the application of recent literature or guidelines in a real-world context.

Key Considerations for Your Proposal:

  • Clinical Relevance: Ensure your case is highly relevant to current emergency medicine pharmacy practice.
  • Educational Value: Focus on clear learning objectives that are ACPE-worthy. What key insights will attendees gain?
  • Data-Driven Discussion: Presentations should be grounded in patient data (labs, vitals, imaging where appropriate and fully de-identified) to illustrate decision points.
  • HIPAA Compliance: All patient information must be meticulously de-identified. No Protected Health Information (PHI) should be included.
  • Active Learning: Plan to incorporate active learning strategies (e.g., polling questions, direct audience questions) to foster engagement.

Presentation Format & Expectations:

  • Each selected case presentation will be strictly timed at 10-15 minutes.
  • This will be followed by a dedicated 5-10 minute Q&A and interactive discussion period, which you will help facilitate.
  • Presenters will be provided with a SEMP presentation template and further guidance upon acceptance.

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the collective knowledge of our EM pharmacy community, gain presentation experience, and fulfill ACPE requirements. We are eager to see your unique cases and the valuable lessons they hold!
